“Calm down, Taylor,” the familiar gruff voice growls against my good ear. “I’m getting you the fuck out of here.”

As soon as I realize it’s Harley, I start crying uncontrollably. He found me. My husband found me just in time. I’m disoriented—probably from shock—but my eyes zero in on two bodies. One with a hole in his chest and the other with a hole in his skull.

I don’t feel one iota of remorse for them. They were going to hurt me. Those two men hurt some teenager named Lucy. But they won’t be hurting anyone ever again. Thanks to Harley.

A few moments later, he opens the passenger side door and hefts me inside, piss-soaked panties, blood stained shirt, and all. He doesn’t waste any time whatsoever. The next second, he’s in the driver’s seat and peeling out down the road. As soon as we’re hauling ass down the street, he turns to regard me, pain flickering in his eyes.

“Did they hurt you? Did they…” he trails off and lets out a roar of fury before slamming his fist on the steering wheel. “I should have gotten there sooner!”

With tears running down my cheeks, I scramble up against his side. I’m bloody and stinky and gross, but none of that matters. Only the comfort I seek. The comfort I crave. Comfort I find in him. He wraps a strong, warm arm around me and hugs me tight.

  “H-H-He put his f-finger inside m-me,” I chatter with a sob. “He was going t-to r-rape me.”

“Shhh,” he whispers against my head. “I’ve got you now. Those fuckers are dead, baby. They won’t be hurting anyone ever again.”

The emotion overwhelms me and I am suddenly extremely exhausted. I fall asleep to the sound of his heavy, furious breathing. I’m safe. With Harley, I’ll always be safe.

It took another day, since those backwoods goddamned rapists tried to hurt my wife, but we eventually made it to the house in northern Montana. The house is one that you have to know it’s there to find it. Not one of these homes off the side of the road. It’s a lot of maneuvering down old gravel roads, through thick forests. Eventually, I find the still-locked gate that will take us to the house.

I leave the truck idling as I hop out to unlock the gate. Once I pull the truck inside the property, I lock it back as to not invite unwanted guests. There is still a chance that people could have come up on the private land, but I’ll have to be watchful for that. I’m just thankful as fuck we finally made it. Alive. After I killed those men, we passed by a few more sticky looking situations. A couple of cars and buildings on fire. Several times we had guns pointed at us from the roadside. But we never stopped or slowed.

I follow the gravel road through a thicket of trees for a good three more miles. Eventually, I come up on the plain, two-story home that’s seen better days. I thought I’d come back here and restore the place, one day. At that time, I’d hoped it would have been with Barb. Now I realize, I just wanted it to be with someone I loved. Having Taylor here with me is better than I could have imagined.

She’s sleeping when I park behind the house, so I lock her inside the truck while I make sure there aren’t any threats lurking around. I do a quick sweep of the house and am elated to find that it hasn’t been disturbed since I was here a few months back to clean it up. There’s food stocked in the cabinets and everything still seems clean. It’s a nice home to bring Taylor back to, despite the chaos of the country right now. I couldn’t ask for a better situation.

Well, electricity would be better, but the fucking AAA terrorists ruined that one for us.

When I make it back to the truck, she’s sitting up wiping sleep out of her eyes as she peers up at the big home. I stalk over to her and help her out.

  “Honey, we’re home.”

Her arms latch around my neck and she kisses me hard. “Thank you. Thank you for this.”

I scoop her up and carry her into our house, over the threshold, my first act as husband in our new home. Then, I take her over to the sofa in front of the fireplace. She’s quiet as I start the fire. Once it’s blazing, I tell her to stay put while I unload the truck. A half hour later, we’re finally unpacked and in our new house.

“Do I get the grand tour?” she questions with a soft smile. Still smiling, despite the madness we’ve gone through. Just one of the many reasons why I love this woman.

  “Come on, pixie.”

She beams and takes my hand. I lead her through all the rooms, showing her things along the way. Darkness is falling upon us so she doesn’t get that much of a show. She’ll have more fun exploring tomorrow in the daylight. We end up in the bathroom upstairs. It has a large window that allows the moonlight to pour in. When she sees her reflection, she groans.

  “I look terrible!” she shrieks.

Chuckling, I wrap my arms around her middle from behind. My eyes are wild. Wild for her and wild to protect her at all costs. Hers are a little on the wild side too. “You look beautiful.”

“Liar,” she says with a small chuckle. “Do you think we have water?”

I pull away from her and walk over to the shower. When I turn the knob, the water pours out without protest and in seconds, thanks to a gas water heater, it’s hot. When I turn around, she’s naked and crying. I strip down and then follow her into the shower. Her sobs get louder and louder as she hugs me, her sweet face pressed against my chest.

“I’m sorry,” I murmur against her hair. “I’m sorry it’s come to this.”

Sniffling, she lifts her chin and stares up at me, the blood long since washed away. “Sorry? Harley,” she chokes out. “You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. And this?” Her hand waves around her and then wiggles under the hot spray. “This is more than I could have ever expected. You’re amazing and I don’t deserve you.”

I growl in argument before kissing her hard. “You.” Kiss. “Deserve.” Kiss. “It all.” Kiss.

A loud moan escapes her as her hands grab at my shoulders. I slide my palms to her ass and lift her. My dick is hard and her cunt is ready. With one quick thrust, I push into my wife. This lovemaking session is hot and quick and desperate. And the moment she shudders in my arms, I come deep inside of her.

“We survived,” she tells me happily.

  “I never had any doubt.”

We’ve been at the new house for a week. Taylor has worked hard to make this home as normal as can be for us. She keeps it clean—obsessively so—while I hunt and try to reach my brother on the transistor radio. Together we cook. And then we retire to the bed upstairs where we make love all night. In a bed. A big, soft, warm bed. Our routine is simple, but it’s ours.

“Harley!” Taylor hollers from the kitchen. The fear in her voice has me abandoning the radio in the extra bedroom and storming down the hall to find her. I’ve already pulled my Glock out and have it raised in case I need to fuck someone up. But when I reach the kitchen, she’s peering out the window over the sink. Her ass looks downright delectable in her yoga pants and if I weren’t more worried about intruders, I’d take a bite of it.

  “What?”

  “Look,” she chokes out.

When I come up behind her and press into her, I follow her stare. I’d expected something terrible, like more fuckers like the ones who had tried to hurt her. Instead, I see snow. Lots of it.

“It’s really coming down,” I note as I set the gun down on the countertop.

“Will it scare away all the animals?” she questions, worry seeping into her words. “Will we go hungry?”

I slip my palms under her sweater and cup her tiny bare breasts. I love that she doesn’t bother with bras anymore. “It’ll be fine. I used to do most of my hunting here in the winter while it snowed. Those animals aren’t going anywhere.”

She sags in relief. “Will the worry ever go away?”

I frown as I kiss the side of her neck. “Not as long as I have you. I’ll always be worried about your safety.”

Her small body twists in my arms until she’s looking up at me with her wide, sparkling green eyes. She’s so fuc
king pretty it drives me crazy sometimes. Most days, it takes everything in me to leave her naked body in bed to go hunting or to do other necessary shit around the house. If I let my dick call the shots, we’d do nothing but make love to this beautiful woman all hours of the day.

“Did you get ahold of your brother yet?” she asks, her full lips pursing into a pout.

I have to kiss them. How could I not? My lips brush against hers softly. “Not yet.”

“Do you think—” Her words die in her throat the moment I start dragging her sweater up and off her body. I grab her dainty waist and hoist her onto the countertop. She spears her fingers into my hair and lets out a moan when my mouth latches onto her perky tit. “Oh God,” she murmurs. “Harley.”

I tug at her nipple with my teeth and wonder if she’s wet inside her panties. The thought of her knelt over the bathtub as she scrubs her panties clean along with all of the other laundry has my dick desperate to get out of my jeans.

She yanks at my shirt so I lift my arms to help her free me of it. I’m pressing slow, hot kisses between her breasts toward her belly button when she starts wiggling out of her yoga pants. I chuckle and drag them down her thighs. The pants get chucked to the floor, but I fist her wet panties in my hand. Our eyes meet when I bring the fabric to my nose and inhale.

“So wet. So fucking delicious. Mine,” I growl before making a great show of tonguing the wetness from the lacey fabric.

Her green eyes are blazing with lust as she grabs my shoulders and jerks me to her. “Stop teasing me,” she demands, her legs wrapping around my waist. “Fuck me, dear husband.”

Smirking, I slip my fingers to her slippery cunt. I relish in the way she bucks and cries out when I massage her pretty clit just the way she likes. When she’s no doubt soaking the countertop with her sweet juices, I give her sensitive bundle of nerves a slight pinch to send her over the edge.

“Harley!” she screams, her entire body convulsing.

I unbuckle my jeans in one fluid motion and they fall to my ankles. I’m not wearing underwear so I tug her off the counter and right onto my dick. Her pussy knows the way, sliding easily down my thickness.

I’ll never tire of fucking this woman.

  She’s everything to me.

  “Yes,” she whispers. “So deep.”

Grinning, I grab her ass and bounce her on my shaft. Our bodies are making obscene slurping noises. It’s fucking delightful. My wife’s sharp fingernails dig into my neck and shoulder as she desperately holds on. The moment her tight cunt clenches around my cock as she finds her release, I let out a groan of pleasure. Cum shoots into her hot and thick. I love the primal feeling of marking her as mine every time I blow my load inside her.

No other man will know what she feels like.

  Taylor Harrison is forever mine.

“You’re addicted to sex,” I tell her with a chuckle as I nip at the flesh on her throat.

She shivers and laughs back. “You’re like some sadistic dealer that enjoys feeding that addiction.”

I slide her off my softening cock and set her to her wobbly feet. “Maybe you should find a new hobby,” I tease.

She raises an eyebrow up at me. “Like knitting? Perhaps gardening?”

A vision of Taylor on her knees in the spring digging in the dirt gets my dick hard again. “I’d plant my seed in your garden.” When I waggle my eyebrows suggestively at her, she swats at me.

“You’re ridiculous.” She’s pretending to chide me, but love shines brightly in her brilliant green eyes. It’s a look I’ve become quite familiar with and I never plan on not seeing again.

I grab a dish towel and wet it before cleaning her, a smile playing on my lips the whole time. “I love you.”

Her gaze grows serious and she kisses me hard on the lips. “I love you, too, big boy.”

We eventually clean up and I leave her to cook. Now that we’re away from technology and the world, Taylor has taken it upon herself to cook all of our meals. I can see the pride shining in her eyes when she sets the table and we sit down to eat. Her obsessiveness no longer bothers me. The forks are perfect and straight. The cloth napkins folded just so. To me, it shows how much she cares for our home and our life. Some of the meals have been salty or overcooked, but I always tell her it’s the best damn meal I’ve ever had. And it’s true. Each day gets better than the rest with her. The food we have isn’t what matters. It’s who we share the meal with that does.

She’s humming in the kitchen and I sit back down in the spare room to try and reach my brother on the radio. I’m just about to give up for the day again when I hear his voice.

  “Harley!”

I’m so overcome with emotion at hearing my brother that I stumble over my words at first. “Bentley. Fuck. How the hell are you, man?”

“We’re fine. Canada is fine. How are you? You made it out okay and to the house?” he questions. His voice is husky and I can tell he’s trying not to cry with relief at knowing I’m okay.

“It was one helluva trip, but Taylor and I are safe. We’re home,” I assure him, fighting the tightness in my own throat.

He clears his and lets out a chuckle. “So you guys made it work after all?”

I smile and meet her gaze in the doorway. Her eyes twinkle upon realizing I’ve reached Bentley. She bounces across the room and into my lap.

“We made it more than work,” she tells him. “We’re in love. I’m Taylor. Glad to meet you.”

He chuckles. “Nice to meet you, too. I’m glad you took care of that mean old bear. He needed someone to look after him.”

We chat some more about safe topics. Then, Taylor leaves to check on dinner.

“So tell me the status of the US,” I blurt right in the middle of him telling me a story about my sister-in-law, Caroline.

At this, he lets out a sigh. “The US government is working with the aide of other countries, including Canada and Great Britain. They’ve brought in troops to secure the bigger cities and to try and get the power back on. Last I heard, they’d apprehended the leader of the AAA but were still having trouble restoring order. The US president came on TV earlier this week and assured the world that the country was on its way to recovery. They assumed within another week or two, not only would there be power, but the American Red Cross and National Guard would be aiding those who were starving and without homes. The whole goddamned country went to hell when the bombs in the major cities went off and the power went out. They’ve declared martial law for now. When I didn’t hear from you in weeks, I’d assumed the worst. Thank God you and your wife made it out safely.”

I scrub at my face and let his words sink in. “It was fucking terrifying, man,” I tell him with a hoarse voice. “Some scum tried to hurt my woman.” I swallow and force myself to say the words aloud. “I killed two men to protect her.”

Bentley is silent for a moment before he says his next words in a firm tone. “You did what you had to do. I’d have done the same.”

Relief floods through me. I’d do it again and again if I had to.

“So what now?” I ask him.

I can hear the smile in his voice. “Stay put. Ride this thing out. I’ll keep you posted. If you run out of supplies or have any problems, get ahold of me. We’ll come down there and get you if we have to.”

“We’ll be fine,” I assure him. “I miss you, brother.”

“I miss you, too. We’ll see each other soon. Stay safe, man.”

I wake with a start in the early dark morning. The house is quiet, aside from the sound of Taylor’s soft breathing from beside me. My mind is on my brother and the future. On Tay and I. Seems like all I do is worry about her. It’s been a week since he and I made contact. The country is still in chaos. Until things calm down and return to normal, I’ll never let my guard down.

She makes a groaning sound and I swear she feels clammy pressed against me. Alarm shoots through me like a geyser. I brush her damp hair from her face and kiss her cool flesh.
/>
  “Babe,” I murmur. “You okay?”

At my voice, she sits up abruptly. Then, she makes a gurgling sound before stumbling out of the bed as if her pants are on fire. I’m hot on her heels as I follow her into the bathroom.

“Oh God,” she chokes out a moment before she falls to her knees in front of the toilet. She gags and then vomits into the bowl.

Panicked, I drop to my knees behind her and sweep her hair back into my grip so she doesn’t puke all over it.

“Talk to me, Tay. What the fuck is wrong?” My heart is thundering in my chest. What if she ate some tainted meat? What if the stacks of canned goods in the basement were outdated and have given her botulism or something?

  Oh fucking hell.

I won’t lose my wife to food poisoning.

“Baby,” I bark out when she starts vomiting again. “Jesus Christ, what’s wrong with you? Tell me you’re okay.”

She’s sobbing as she pukes, which only seems to plow the knife of fear deeper into my chest. I can’t lose her. I will not fucking lose her. I’m already planning on reaching out to Bentley so we can make a plan to get her the hell to a hospital when she swipes her mouth with the back of her hand and looks over at me with tears in her eyes.

“Harley,” she whimpers. “I think I’m pregnant.”

Relief floods through me because at least she isn’t dying, goddammit. We haven’t used a condom once, so pregnancy was inevitable. Ideal, no. But definitely an outcome that isn’t shocking.

“Are you sure it isn’t food poisoning?” I clarify as I stroke her cheek with my thumb.

She shakes her head. “I’ve missed my period. My boobs are sore. I’m nauseous in the mornings. It’s definitely pregnancy.”

I let her words sink in. Pregnant. With my baby. Fierce male pride washes over me as I begin planning in my head all the things we’ll need for our child. When I don’t speak right away, she starts to cry which jolts me from my thoughts.
