“Does that mean . . .” he trails off in a whisper.

“I think it does,” I laugh through my tears. “Well, at least, I hope it does.”

He kisses my hair and inhales me. “Darling, I do have faith that God has a plan for us. And if that includes a little one growing inside you, I will be fucking elated.”

I sigh as he rolls me over to my back. His lips find mine and we kiss for a moment.

“And,” he says with a smile, “If He does not have a plan for a child, we’ll still have a hell of a time trying. I shall never love you any less.” His dark eyes are brewing with a storm of love and adoration all directed toward me.

“How did I get so lucky to have you?” I ask.

He closes his eyes and presses a soft kiss to my lips. “I prayed for an angel and he sent me you. It would appear that I am the lucky one.”

As we deepen our kiss, I send up a prayer of my own.

Mother, put in a good word to God.

The Alcotts are ready for their baby bird.

  The End

  The Practical Joke

Every now and again, I like to mess with my beta readers and editor by slipping in something totally random and confusing. While writing Becoming Mrs. Benedict, it also happened to be the sinking of the Titanic anniversary. Of course I had to watch the movie on television and very quickly marveled at their clothes and language—they reminded me so much of my characters. So, thus, an evil plan formed. I wrote this “fake” epilogue and placed it before the real epilogue before sending it off to my beta readers and editor.

  Then I waited.

It didn’t take long before I got plenty of messages that had me laughing like a lunatic . . .

  “THEY’RE ON THE TITANIC?!?!?!”

  “NOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

  “Kristi, you’re mean!”

I thought it was quite funny. And I warned them, when they least expect it, I’ll be teasing them again. Just keeping them on their toes . . .

Hope you enjoy the fake epilogue I sent them!

  April 15th, 1912

“I AM LOOKING FORWARD to seeing New York,” I sigh as we walk along the deck of the ship.

Tonight, the air is crisp and quite chilly. I lean in toward Alcott, and he kisses the top of my head.

“I’m not finished showing you the world, darling. I shall cart you to every corner of this Earth to impress and dazzle you,” he chuckles.

We approach a couple standing close on the bow of the ship. They’re very much in love, not unlike us when we married nearly twenty-five years before.

  “Good evening,” Alcott addresses them.

They turn toward us, and the fellow wraps his arm around the woman.

“Good evening. This is quite a ship,” he praises. “They say it’s unsinkable.”

Both men chuckle as the two of us ladies smile at one another.

“I’m Alcott Dumont, and this is my lovely wife, Ella,” my husband greets officially.

The woman is beautiful in her stunning dress, but I see her eyeing up my trousers with confusion. I’m accustomed to the looks of disapproval by people when it comes to my clothing choices.

“I’m Jack Dawson,” the young man says, “and this is Rose DeWitt Bukater.”

We all shake hands and comment on the beautifully starry night. Finally, after some small talk with the younger couple, we bid our farewells and head toward our cabin to call it an early evening.

“My love for you, darling, is as unsinkable as this ship,” Alcott assures me.

I scan the massive beast we are floating upon somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean and admire the sheer size of it. If Alcott’s love is as big as this ship, the Titanic, then it must true.

“I’ll never let go, Jack.” My cheeks redden at having accidentally said the handsome young man’s name. “I mean, I’ll never let go, Alcott. Even if this ship were to somehow sink and I was lying on a big hunk of wood all to myself while you dangled in the water, I wouldn’t let go. I would never pry your dead, frozen hands from my arm and push you into the dark, chilly abyss.”

I’m a thirty four year old self-proclaimed book nerd. Married to my husband for twelve years, we enjoy spending time with our two lovely children. Writing is a fun hobby for me that has now turned into a livelihood over the past year. In the past, I’ve enjoyed the role as a reader. However, I have learned I absolutely love taking on the creative role as the writer. Something about determining how the story will play out intrigues me to no end.

This writing experience has been a blast and I’ve met some really fabulous people along the way. I hope my readers enjoy reading my stories as much as I do writing them. I look forward to connecting with you all!
